Scout To Deliver Professional Home Monitoring For SmartThings Open Platform As The First Premium Services Partner

SmartThings and Scout today announced the launch of the first premium service that integrates Scout Professional Monitoring directly onto the SmartThings platform and app experience. SmartThings customers who opt into the service, currently in beta, can now receive 24/7 professional home monitoring with police dispatch in response to intrusion events. Scout is the first third party to deliver their paid service on top of the SmartThings platform.

“Smart home technology has advanced to a stage where we can move beyond functionality enabled purely by devices and start to plug in services that will bring real, tangible benefits to customers,” said Mark Yoshitake, SmartThings Vice President of Product. “Scout Alarm is the first of several premium services to build on top of the SmartThings open platform, which is designed to bring choice and options to consumers. We’re excited for people to start experiencing the power of the smart home and home services together, inevitably leading to wider adoption.”

Scout Professional Monitoring works alongside the Samsung SmartThings Home Monitoring Kit, which includes the Samsung SmartThings Hub and various sensors to offer an easy way for people to monitor, control and secure their homes from anywhere. With this new integration, customers now have the added benefit of being able to elevate incidents to the police for enhanced peace of mind. The service can be accessed entirely through the SmartThings app and only requires a Samsung SmartThings Hub and sensors that work together to detect potential intrusion.

“SmartThings is a natural partner for Scout; their open platform made it simple for us to bring our professional monitoring service to market, fully integrated with their solution and empowering customers to determine the right level of response to an event at home. Now, with 24/7 monitoring, customers have the option to elevate an event to the police without needing a long-term contract. When it comes to protecting homes, families and valuables, nothing is more powerful than knowing the police will respond, even when a customer cannot,” said Dan Roberts, CEO and co-founder of Scout Alarm.

Scout Professional Monitoring is available to SmartThings customers in beta for $19.99 per month with no contract. The service is also available in beta to a limited number of new customers through a special promotional bundle with the Samsung SmartThings Home Monitoring Kit.
