Meet Scout
Meet Scout - Ben
• 5 minutes read
Bio: I grew up in a suburb of South Bend, Indiana where I played Rugby in high school and was a member of the high school robotics team (FIRST Robotics Team #135). I completed undergraduate studies (B.S. in Computer Engineering) at Purdue University and moved to Austin, Texas for nearly a decade. While I was there I obtained my Masters degree in Software Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin while working full time. I’ve worked at AMD and NVIDIA before joining Scout Alarm where I run the web store (and a few other web properties) and occasionally work on firmware, home automation frameworks and testing infrastructure for Scout’s sensors. I now live just north of Indianapolis in Carmel, IN, retrofitting my residence to be a smart home and I am currently really into 3D printing as a hobby. I have a personal blog where I catalog my personal adventures in technology at https://azurewraith.enhasa.io.
- What’s your favorite part of being a member of the Scout team?
There is a wide range of things to do on our small Engineering team, on any given day I can be addressing customer issues, writing and flashing firmware, working on our backend infrastructure or doing general web development. Never a dull day!
- Besides Scout, which IoT product can you not live without and why?
Amazon’s Alexa home assistant because she is so useful, especially for home automation.
- What’s your favorite IFTTT recipe?
Activate SmartThings Siren when Alarm is Triggered. It meshes my Scout Alarm system well with my SmartThings based siren!
